We have had many vintage cigarette cases, but this is the first wooden one we have run across.  We got it from the original owner who purchased it in the 1940s. The finish is a high gloss walnut style.  The unique lid slides back to expose 10 compartments to hold a cigarette in each. This will only accommodate the regular size cigarettes, as it is only 3 inches tall.  The case is in great shape with no cracks or scratches to deal with and the finish is shiny and bright. However, there is a bit of wear on the veneer, at the lower corner from years of handling. Also a tiny bit of wear at the tips of the lid, from sliding back and forth, but this is very minor. A very unique smoking collectible.
